Privacy Policy for Expenmo

Effective Date: May 15, 2025 (Last Updated: January 12, 2024)

Thank you for using Expenmo! This Privacy Policy explains how Expenmo, a product developed and operated by HomeAsync LLC, collects, uses, and protects your information. By using Expenmo, you agree to the terms outlined in this policy.

1. Information Collection and Usage

1.1 Local Storage (Current Implementation):

Expenmo is currently designed to operate entirely on your device. All data you input is stored locally and is not transmitted to our servers. No personal or expense data is shared, collected, or tracked by us at this time.

1.2 User-Entered Data:

You may enter data such as expense titles, amounts, people involved in shared expenses, and other metadata. This information is retained only on your device unless otherwise stated.

1.3 Google Analytics:

We use Google Analytics to help us understand how users interact with Expenmo, including which screens are accessed, how long users engage with the app, and overall usage trends. Google Analytics may collect anonymized information such as browser type, device type, operating system, and usage patterns via cookies or mobile identifiers. This data is used solely to improve the application and is not used to personally identify users.

Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and its own terms for partner sites. You can opt out of Google Analytics by adjusting your browser settings or installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

2. Future Cloud Features and Syncing

2.1 Planned Changes:

Future updates may introduce optional cloud syncing functionality. These features may require the collection and storage of user data including, but not limited to, name, email address, and expense records on our servers.

2.2 Third-Party Associations:

If you associate other individuals with expenses (e.g., shared purchases), only names and optional notes will be stored. These names will not be verified or used for marketing purposes.

2.3 User Consent:

Any transition to server-based features will be opt-in only. You will receive clear notification of what data is being transmitted and stored, and you must explicitly consent before using such features.

3. Data Security and Protection

3.1 On-Device Security:

Expenmo stores your data locally on your device using technologies such as LiteDB (for Android) and IndexedDB or LocalStorage (for web-based platforms). These storage mechanisms do not encrypt data by default. While they are suitable for offline use, they may be vulnerable if your device or browser is compromised. You are encouraged to secure your device with a passcode or biometric lock and avoid using Expenmo on shared or public devices.

3.2 Cloud Storage (When Available):

If and when cloud-based storage is introduced, HomeAsync LLC will implement industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit and at rest, to protect your data.

4. Your Rights and Choices

4.1 Local Deletion:

You may delete all data stored on your device at any time through the in-app settings.

4.2 Future Sync Opt-Out:

You will retain the ability to opt out of any server-based features at any time. If you opt out, no data will be sent from your device.

5. International Users

Expenmo may be accessed by users in other regions/countries outside of the United States. While we do not currently collect or transmit personal data, any future collection will comply with applicable regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Data will not be collected without clear and affirmative user consent.

6. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as features evolve. If significant changes are made, you will be notified through the application or by email (if provided) before they take effect.
